Not OP but I'll chime in anyway. You can open an account with Fidelity and invest in their zero minimums mutual funds. These track broad US and international stock markets and let you invest with even just a dollar. This would be a simple way to get money into the market. That said, make sure you are paying off (high interest) debt and taking care of yourself before you go this route.
