As someone who's lived in both Aramco, compound in Jeddah and in KAUST, I can tell you this. If you live in a compound you're probably pretty well and most likely well off and not from Saudi Arabia cause they're expensive as shit and they're rentals, perfect for people there only for work. Living in a compound grants you no extra privileges, but living in a huge rich company's compound like Aramco or KAUST would due to the type of networking that people can make there.
on an unrelated note: May I ask where you're studying in the US? I think a lot of Saudi's on scholarships go to my university so I was just curious.
