Do you think using the technique to wake up during your sleep cycle and then going back to sleep has more to do with helping you remember the lucid dream as opposed to actually helping you to lucid dream?

I'm not an expert, but here's my opinion based off of personal experience.
I've had a similar experience before, where I knew it was a dream but I lacked fundamental control such as waking up. What I think is happening here is that you're actually having a regular dream that you're lucid dreaming and you can't wake up.
Because the dream is based off of you not being able to wake up, naturally you won't be able to wake up and the "lucid" part is more of an illusion to set the scenery.
