Everyone who doubts evolution should read up on the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Along with chromosome 2 demonstrating human-ape common ancestry, it's my favorite smoking gun in evolutionary biology. It comes up so often that I feel like I'm being elementary and trite when I bring it up, assuming that the other person will say "well duh, here's my response to that." They never do; they've never heard of it before.

I just wanted you to know how much "The Inner Light" means to me and to all Trek fans.

Trek is very important to a lot of people. Whether it's a casual pastime, a dedicated passion, or a major impact on their lives, it's the stories, the characters, and the philosophy that make it so endearing.

At least two episodes transcend that. There are arguably more, but all of us agree on two: "City on the Edge of Forever", and "The Inner Light." Star Trek has a certain feel, a formula that I'm sure you're aware of, and that can be limiting in its scope. But with your episode, you hit upon something that runs deep into the core of life. When our lives run so short, the idea of suddenly having a second one come and go in the blink of an eye makes us think hard about the profound effect it would have on us.

You wrote the greatest episode of Star Trek. "The Inner Light" is the best single story I have ever seen on screen. It is reminiscent of the best of Asimov or Clarke; either would be envious of such a touching, personal, introspective, wondrous story. Whatever your goals really were, this is what you got. You made the single best contribution to what people think of when they think of Star Trek.

I wanted you to know that, and it looks like you're done with questions so I won't sandwich one in at the end.
