While I'm glad that you have an experience in the Girl Scouts that you value, I feel that it's a disadvantage to have troops organized so strictly into peer groups. My experience in the Boy Scouts included a range of ages (11-18) where the older Scouts were responsible to train, counsel, supervise and encourage younger Scouts. As a young Scout, this gave me role models a few years older than me - boys who exemplified achievable goals for myself. As an older Scout, I learned leadership and the responsibility to set a good example. I wish there were more opportunities like this for young women.

Girl Scouts appears to be organized such that girls primarily interact with girls approximately their same age. What experiences have you had working with girls who are 2+ years older or younger than you? As an older Girl Scout do you have any responsibilities that include younger girls?
