I've been critical of the Mongolian Charity Rally and the Mongol Rally for some time. Both have marketed themselves as charities, but are in many ways just vacations. The Mongol Rally dropped the "charity" part from their description in 2006, and as the OP alludes to in other posts, Mongolia recently lifted their ban on cars being "donated" in their country. People have, and still are, driving crappy cars to Mongolia, ruining them, and leaving them there. It does seem like OP is doing better.

I don't think there is any way to get around the fact that this route and rally will never be as "helpful" as doing what other people are suggesting -- driving a shorter route, or not driving and just donating that time and money. I also think it is OK to raise an eyebrow at what exactly "raising awareness" means. Anyway, whether this represents the very best or worst of "voluntourism" I'm not sure.

The Stephen King book you knocked from first place was published in 1978. Wasn't it just going to happen anyway?

In many categories old Stephen King books are not number one. Or in the top five, ten, etc. I think your book is an accomplishment but this comparison here seems a little silly.
