Not OP, but Ill give it a shot. I assume he meant to say WWII, because imo there are far more parallels between nowadays and the 1920s-30s than the 1900s-10s.

1920s-30s:

By the time that Hitler rose to power in the early 1930s, and Mussolini in the 1920s, the economy had crashed in the United States, starting a global depression. Germany's economy had already been in ruins after the Treaty of Versailles which essentially aimed to cripple Germany's military and economy, in order to prevent a second world war.

Both Hitler and Mussolini, using race, ethnicity, religion, and class as scapegoats for the failures of the economy and the disappointments of WWI, were able to attract large amounts of the angry and ignored working population to a new ideology. Fascism. This authoritarian political ideology relied on a popular dictator that would have almost total control over the nation. A defining characteristic of this ideology was anti-bolshevism/anti-communism, and extreme national pride.

Today:

We are still recovering from the largest economic disaster since the great depression of the 1920s-30s, and as a result of perceived inaction, angry and ignored sections of the population, many of them young people, have become fed up with the political establishment. Trump is at the head of this movement. Although not anywhere near as close to Hitler/Mussolini as some people would like him to be/like to say he is, he is similar in the way that he has wrangled the disgruntled conservative working class and uses other countries as a scapegoat. He, like Hitler and Mussolini, believes in Making X Great Again. He wants to reverse the perceived failures of previous heads of state (Hitler: the failure of WWI, percieved weakness of the political establishment, the lack of efficient response to the depression. Trump: the decline of the ultra-traditional family, percieved weakness of the political establishment, the lack of efficient response to the recession for much of the working class, etc.).

Trump also believes in the idea of a strongman at the head of the country. He seemingly does not want to work with the system- he wants to get rid of the political establishment, and work things out by himself and with his supporters.

This comparison also works with France, the Phillipines, Brazil, etc. People are generally tired of the percieved failures of the political class, and want to overthrow it. In some ways, this is good. It means that our democracies become themselves in a more pure form once again. In some ways, this is terrible and outright dangerous, due to the fact that leaders that many of the people want to vote into power are either irrational, hateful, or unpredictable- just like the fascist and ultra conservative leaders of the 1920s-1930s.

I doubt we will end up in WWIII, but by god are the starting conditions beginning to look similar.
