Please talk to an accountant if your business starts getting big. I know we can be expensive, but you don't want a letter from the IRS 5 years from now finding out you owe $1000, and then they look at the subsequent 4 years, and it compounds into $10,000.

Spend the $400 this year and get yourself setup correctly and avoid the heartache in the future if your business continues to be steady. It can be done sometime later or even next year, just plan for it.

Use someone local. A small firm or a 1-5 person CPA shop is fine.

Once you find out what you can deduct, what you need to track, and what you can do to save money on your tax liability, they will have paid for themselves.

You need to set aside 30-40% of your gross income to taxes right now. I appreciate you're new at this. You do not realize how much you're going to have to pay right now. Self employment taxes alone at like 15%, then you have income taxes, state taxes, etc.

Have you or will you be deployed? I've been curious if all marines just get deployed or if they just hang out and work out all the time or something....

I actually don't know much about what the military does when they're not working out or doing some sort of combat or combat training
