Being told by Vancil that my mad scientist halloween costume was giving him an idea for a character, and then receiving a copy of the script a couple months later with the instructions that we were doing a table read that weekend. He'd never actually asked if I could do a German accent, or had ever acted, or was at all interested in acting, or not completely terrified of acting. But I figured, "What the hell!" and went for it. As a result I've made some of the best friends I've ever had , and caused large numbers of geeks to laugh out loud in public. Can't ask for much more than that!
