The national committees aren't part of the election system. They're private clubs. While the elections work fine and the offices work fine, the fact that the DNC didn't even pretend to follow their own rules is abhorrent.

Remember, Debbie Wasserman Schultz was a Clinton staffer during her unsuccessful run against Obama, then she was appointed to the DNC and rigged the primaries in favor of Clinton. Then, after she was ousted from the DNC she immediately began working for the Clinton campaign again.

That's not an indictment of the entire system. That's an indictment of the Democratic National Convention and, depending upon your reading, the Clinton Campaign.
