Hey there :) Just saw this and thought I'd do a drive by post since I'm the South Pole network engineer. We do NOT need our appendix out or our wisdom teeth removed as long as they are healthy.

I'm the south pole network engineer right now. What kind of IT do you do?

They have a few of those positions at McMurdo. In fact they have both help desk people as well as PC Techs. There is a summer only PC Tech position at Pole and in the winter the Sys Admin does PC Support as well.

It is a tradition amongst south pole winter-overs to watch The Thing together after the last plane leaves at the start of winter. So yes we have it :) We also have a very large film library of movies, documentaries and TV shows.
