I recall talking to my son when he was younger about being approached by strangers. I asked him if someone came up and asked him to help him find a puppy would he go with him? He nodded his head eagerly thinking it was the right answer. I had to explain to him that adults shouldn't ask kids for help and that some adults want to hurt children. His face fell and I swear he lost a bit of innocence at that moment. Breaks my heart that we even have to teach kids this stuff.

Kinda of off topic but we used a few signs with our son when he was little. He is not deaf.

I was talking to a coworker about using sign language with my son and he told me that he and his wife refused to use sign language with their baby (he was also not deaf) because they believed it would delay his development. Lo and behold their son ended up with a severe speech delay and sign language actually would have helped them be able to communicate with him. Even a few simples signs would have helped. He told me how difficult it was to try and understand what he wanted and also how frustrated his son would get not being able to communicate. I felt bad for him but also felt like if they wouldn't have been so closed minded they probably could have had a much easier time communicating with their son.

I kept getting told to take acid reflux medication too. It was maddening. I was having severe pain after eating. The kind of pain where I almost passed out a few times. I couldn’t lay down or sit down and had to stand until it passed. It took two years to see that my “minor” hiatal hernia was in fact a severe hiatal hernia with my stomach in my chest. Two endoscopies didn’t show it but a CT scan did. Then I finally had surgery to repair it. Did you see a gastroenterologist?

CICO didn’t work for me for the same reasons. I was famished, miserable and didn’t feel good. Plus I barely lost a little over one pound a month. Look into Intermittent Fasting 16:8. For some reason Intermittent Fasting works for me so much better than CICO. It took me about three days to get used to it and now I don’t feel hungry all the time. I feel so much better and I’ve lost 25 lbs.

I was looking through this thread for the cause of her kidney failure. So they really don't know why it failed? I didn't even know that was a thing.

My husband had a friend donate a kidney to him back in 2001. My husband and his four brothers all have (or had) Polycystic kidney disease. We lost two of his brother's to complications from health issues most likely relating to the disease. I have one BIL who has a transplant that predates my husband's and another BIL who does not have any kidney failure. With PKD there is only a 50% chance of kidney failure.

I'm so grateful for our friend donating to my husband. I knew he wasn't feeling well being on dialysis but it wasn't until after the surgery when I saw his coloring and saw how much better he looked that I realized what kind of toll it had taken on him. It was like night and day.
