We manually vet fact checkers before making their contributions public. Now, why should you trust that we're vetting people well?
You didn't really answer the second question. What process or factors are you considering in manually vetting someone who wants to be a fact checker?

That's a major fear of deepfakes, though.
Can't we just use already existing digital signature verification processes to verify videos? Something like PGP key verification? Everyone gets a private key and videos of people are marked with a public key.

I think we would have to just adjust as a society and assume any video that isn't signed with a key is a fake. It won't be easy but I'm not sure what other solution there is.

Yes. And the hacker in that case got more prison time than the actual rapists and people that covered up the evidence.
