Broadly speaking, what do you look for in a transfer student? How heavily do you weigh HS performance for someone who has completed an AS?

I am currently 32 and attending college, working on a Bio major with a concentration in micro, and a bioinformatics minor. At my age, is it realistic to plan to continue on to grad school? Of course my advisors say yes, but I am not certain if they are a reliable source of information, or if they are just trying to be encouraging. Thanks!
