Really, it's an administrative question now, not a political one. Immigration Canada needs to review the applications and evaluate the following: Is there persecution? Is there a risk to their lives? Do they have a future in HK? In the case of the families, they are clearly persecuted in their home countries and now in Hong Kong as well. Their lives are at risk in their home countries but there is also reports of Sri Lankan CID operatives acting on HK soil. Is there any future for them in HK? Given the 0.36% acceptance rate for asylum seekers since 1992, it would appear not. Once you answer these questions, the path forward is clear.

If you're a Canadian, it would be very helpful to contact Minister Ahmed Hussen’s office (1-613-995-0777) as well as your local MP to voice your concern and ask people in your community to do the same!

There is no indication that the U.S. has any interest in the families. They did not do anything illegal in sheltering Snowden.
