Jay, a few questions.

1) What keeps bringing you back to Sesma (he's a buddy of mine)? It seems like you're building a sense of loyalty with a new director after Kevin, curious if you see any similarities or big differences?

2) How does it feel to have such a cult following behind the character of Jay? Do you ever wish you did anything different from the start that would change how people react?

3) What did you think of Palm Springs when you shot there?

4) Have you filmed anything here in New Orleans –– and if not, why? I'll talk to Sesma and make that happen if you're in.

Yeah, but wasn't this kid only two months old? It's not like this happened for nine years without him doing anything.

I guess my question is what do our legislators and local level lawmakers (Mitch, Latoya Cantrell, etc.) have to say about this. It appears that we speak very often about the crime issues that impact the city, but this is quite obviously just as important as the street level law enforcement. After all, what's the point of making an arrest if the accused can't even go to trial?

I'm just curious if even off the record what their words don't say about this. Does their demeanor indicate that they recognize this is a problem? Do they feel that we're just stuck and have to deal with it? The State Police were deployed to the French Quarter to enforce safety, is there a state resource that can be utilized here?

Last question, and this may be a weird one. Anecdotally, there seem to be a scarcity of lawyer jobs in this market, so much so that many barred lawyers have left the industry for other professions. Is there any way for them to volunteer their services as some sort of public defender version of taking a pro bono case?

EDIT: I mistyped prosecutor for public defender and corrected.

Walter, what are your thoughts on the current resurgence of New Orleans? Also, what do you think it will take for people to take the city seriously?

I completely understand. Though, you'd probably take the dermatologist over noone if you were in peril, which it sounds like these accused citizens are in.

I guess a small followup: Did you know this was what you were "signing up for" or was this a surprise? And if you did know, what inspired you to still push forward into this aspect of the "industry"?
