I know you weren't asking me but I wanted to take a moment to answer your question because I feel like I can offer a little bit of insight. I've worked in the US government on a state-level for different Representatives(that's as specific as I can be). And I can tell you that even some members of the right believe that some form of legalization is a good idea. However the vast majority of elected officials will not state this publicly due to the feelings of their constituency.

In other words they don't believe it is a battle worth fighting and in some cases almost certainly conceding their seat.

it's easy to accuse them I've only doing things for votes and not using their heads however I would contest that for many of our elected officials marijuana legalization is simply not a priority in their minds.

Until more noise is made about it among their constituents they will continue to dismiss it as a legitimate political concern.

However at least in the US we seem to be at a turning point in the attitude towards marijuana legalization. Is possible that we could see marijuana legalization in a growing number of states over the next few years.
