As someone who's read several books that aggregated both Allied and German radio reports alongside what actually happened, it's mostly that both were overoptimistic in interpreting current events, but they weren't completely making stuff up.

Like, if Allied or German forces were pushed out of city X, the reports would be "Despite temporary setbacks, our forces are in a great position to recapture city X", but if that didn't happen in the next couple of days, they wouldn't outright lie and pretend that they took city X back.
