Technically I get £15.00 an hour, for 47 hours a week, many unsociable. Given I average 10 hours free labour a week, my wage is a bit over 20% lower than what it appears, i.e. £12.00ish. I'm paid alot less than my peers who got graduate jobs in the private sector (consultancy, technology, banking and recruitment). I also lost two years salary while I was at medical school compared to them. So TLDR: Doctors start off lower than other graduates and start later. If doctors appear wealthy it is often only because they tend to come from higher socio-economic backgrounds and it represents a failing in diversity and equal opportunities in the UK.
