At the time when Solaris was open source, and in particular dtrace since it was opened a few months before Solaris, what was Sun's (or your, to be specific) expectation regarding technologies like dtrace and zfs with regard to Linux? Was the CDDL designed to prevent Sun technologies from entering Linux?

It hasn't been replaced, it's just been ripped out. There's only one place where RabbitMQ is still used in SDC and there's work going on to eliminate it.

My top pick right now is [NATS](nats.io) (gnatsd). It's got a very simple architecture and is blazing fast with extremely high throughput. [NSQ](nsq.io) is another good choice. The architecture is a bit more complex, and it's marketed as "designed to operate at scale". Though I haven't pushed either enough to vouch for their scalability myself. Both are written MIT licensed, written in Go and have client libraries for a wide variety of languages.
