Do you feel like your schooling during that time was sufficient? What have you done since you were kicked out of the community?

It's been nearly 4 years since I've been to the dentist. I need to go for a cleaning, but I've been avoiding it because I remember it hurting, bad. Scraping, stabbing, prodding. I hate it. It's nerve wracking to think about and enough to keep me from going back. Is there anything I can do the have a guaranteed pain-free experience during a simple cleaning procedure? Do dentists offer anesthesia during such a simple procedure?
