I was diagnosed with it in 2012 by a cardiologist. He never mentioned anything dangerous like cardiac arrest or strokes. He's recommended exercise and an increase in fluids and salt. Plus metroprolol or whatever. Do you have other health complications?

Yeah, I'm still stuck in bed because the POTS/Alcohol combo right now. I know the true meaning of hangover.
I've been open with my doctors about it. Of course I had to go through a handful of doctors before my cardiologist, who is awesome, confirmed with a tilt table test. The other docs told me it was anxiety. I cannot begin to express my frustration..
It was really strange when it started. I had a bad sinus infection on my birthday, but still went out drinking. When I woke up I was completely covered in hives. Those hives lasted for over 6 months. About a month into that is when I was also diagnosed with POTS. I spent that first month in a wheelchair and the couch. So something definitely happened there, I just don't know what.
Hydration definitely helps. At least dehydration hurts and I avoid it when I can. I'm working on knocking out bad habits. But it's a whole other ordeal.

Any chance your sister was really sick when she was younger? Maybe with rheumatic fever or mono? I'm beginning to notice a trend I think.
Edit: used the wrong word. Twice

That's how I try to do it. I used to take beta blockers. They showed my heart rate, but didn't make me feel any better so I stopped. I'm also an alcoholic, so staying hydrated is a struggle sometimes. Needless to say I don't feel well very often.
I'd like to know why I got sick. I figure if I knew what subtype I have, maybe I could treat it differently. I've read that sometimes people get over it, but have yet to ever hear a real person confirm that. Been sick over 2 years now.
