How do you feel about Female Genital Mutilation as an Islamic practice being abided by some Fatwas /countries/ Muslims?

Not trying to be confrontational, just genuinely curious. As a fellow woman, I was surprised to learn that in countries like Egypt 90% of women have been subjected to it, and over half of them support this practice as a part of their religious expression. I'm curious what your opinion is on this matter.

That's probably the thing that I really wish everyone would know, that Muslim women aren't oppressed by the religion.

What do you think they are being oppressed by then? Not trying to be disrespectful, just genuinely curious.
