Well put - I can see many non-technical consumers having the retail experience equivalent of "Don't forget you need this $80 HDMI cable with your new TV!"

I think the main concern here is the misleading marketing aspect - as /u/Peter_Venkmen_1 put it:

Color choices are great, but the marketing and advertising do make it seem like the keyboard is included.

Are there any plans at creating offline content bundles for use where internet availability is limited and/or unreliable?

For example, something similar to worldpossible.org's "RACHEL", which bundles educational content from several sources for offline use: http://www.worldpossible.org/rachel/
