We are Presidential Electors who believe the Electoral College was created to be a fail-safe for this very moment in our history. We will be voting for a Republican alternative to Donald Trump. Find out more at www.hamiltonelectors.com.

We have received breaking updates on a report from a DNC researcher discussing the Russian hacking. This is why we must be the fail-safe: https://medium.com/@alexandrachalupa/russias-interference-americans-have-a-right-to-know-a2aabd922129#.h8wv4vtjq

Let's get this straight. I hate trump as much as the next guy. How do you rationalize giving your vote to someone who did not win? All that means is that the countries choice, which has already been pledged, will be changed buy someone who dislikes the politics of the president elect.

It has been clear from day one that Mr. Trump fails Hamilton’s test for the Presidency. He lacks qualifications, is a demagogue, and is under foreign influence. There are now critical questions regarding how orchestrated the Russia interfered to support Donald Trump has been.

We face an unusual scenario where Mr. Trump won the states that gave him a lead in the number of Electors by only 80,000 votes. This is such a slim margin that, in light of possible foreign interference, we believe the Electoral College is duty bound to activate its fail-safe function.

What about states where it is technically illegal for the electoral college to vote against their constituency? Are you aware of any precedent's for this situation or any sort of recourse for these electors who may not be able to vote another way?

The Constitution and Federalist 68 make it clear that Electors are to make a decision they believe is best for the country. State laws penalizing “Faithless” Electors are patently unconstitutional and we believe they will be found so soon by Federal Courts. Many of our country’s greatest legal minds are coming together to fight these laws.

I'm not a Trump supporter, but I have to ask -- given the president-elect's rhetoric and undermining of democratic institutions, do you think he and his core supporters will accept a change thrust upon them by the electors?

To clarify -- aren't some things more important than a single election? Like when SCOTUS stopped the 2000 recount. The civil unrest/questioning of election legitimacy will damage our democracy. Do you think the potential damage Trump presents to be greater than that?

HamiltonElectors130 karma

The Constitution has kept this country stable for over 200 years. I trust in it and the guidance our founding fathers left for us.

Our actions are Constitutional. Hamilton painted a character eerily similar to Donald Trump in Federalist 68. The immediate existential threat that Donald Trump poses our nation is greater than the speculation of what some may or may not do. The Constitution compels us to act.

I have heard you all say that there is much more behind the scenes than you can discuss publicly. Does that mean that you are in talks with more Republican electors than Suprun?

Yes, we have had conversations with countless Republican electors. Many are very concerned about what Donald Trump will do to our country.

Many Republican Electors have voiced support for Gov. Kasich as someone they would consider as an alternative to Donald Trump.

This is why we are launching #DraftKasich. Gov. Kasich is a man with the integrity and experience that we believe Republican Electors will rally around.

Supposing you fragment the Republican vote enough to throw the election into the House, do you anticipate that the House will elect anyone besides Trump?

HamiltonElectors19 karma

I believe that if we#draftKasich the house will rally around him. Gov. Kasich is a proven leader with 18 years of experience in the house. He in his second term as a very popular governor. Members Congress know him personally and know that he has the experience and the integrity to lead unify our country.

Can you explain the logistics of how the House will vote (and when) if the electors do in fact succeed.

Are there any GOP electors willing to vote for HRC?

HamiltonElectors1 karma

Each house delegation from each state gets a single vote.

We have been in touch with many GOP electors and none so far have indicated any willingness to consider voting for Sec. Clinton. That is, in part, why we are pursuing our pragmatic solution. The Founding Fathers were great idealist, but they were also pragmatists. We are looking to their writings for inspiration.

Why not listen to the voice of the American People who elected Hillary Clinton by a wide margin instead of violating everything America stands for and trying to select a non-candidate?

HamiltonElectors9 karma

I have a great deal of respect for Sec. Clinton. Based on many personal conversations, I do not believe that any Republican Electors would be willing to place an Electoral Vote for Sec. Clinton. The threat of Donald Trump means that we have to put part aside and do whatever is most likely to stop him. I personally believe that means voting for a Republican that can unite the country.
