" We’re Westland Distillery, an American Single Malt Whiskey distillery located in Seattle, WA. We’ve been in production since June 2011, and we’ve had the good fortune to be able to focus on the one thing we’re passionate about: helping to establish the American Single Malt category as a national and international mainstay. We mash and distill three different grain bills at our distillery in Seattle, and mature in an extensive cask program in Hoquiam, on the Washington coast. These whiskeys go on to create our three core expressions: Flagship, Peated, and Sherry Wood American Single Malt whiskey.

Right now we’re available in something like 30 states across the country, and were recently named Icons of Whisky’s Craft producer of the year. (http://www.iconsofwhisky.com/2016/america/) I’m the distillery manager, Scott. I’ve been working at Westland since February of 2012 and I’m going to answer every question you have for us, along with help from Matt, our master distiller; Shane, our QA manager; Tyler, our head stillman; and Ellie, our mashwoman.

Here’s our website

And our Instagram

And our twitter

I’ll try to answer some questions live, but I have to run down to our bottling line today. I will add pictures of my day as it goes on.

Thanks! "

how did you win an award for 2016 when it is still 2015?

Hi Scott! I've been wanting to try craft distilling myself for a while now. Do you have any tips for someone wanting to distill at home? I've also been curious about other woods as opposed to white oak for maturing. Do other nut bearing trees work well? (Pecan, Walnut, etc)

When did you decide you wanted to switch careers from professional BMX to master distiller? Can we expect a Matt Hofman's Pro Distillery game in the future?
