Solid hook, I'll edit in a headshot in a little but, my question is this:
Judging by the title of the AMA you feel it is important to not only identify as an animator, but a female. Is that significant? Do you feel that it makes a difference in your job/career? Why?

I think being a lady is great I'm proud of what my gender can do and it's been a good year for women in animation. Jennifer Lee won an Academy Award for Frozen and Christina Miller is the head of Cartoon Network. The important part of identifying as a women is that it encourages girls with dreams

Your art is amazing! Have you ever made any watercolor animations? I've heard that animating "ink" is extremely difficult.
Thanks!
traceyelle4 karma
No but I really like the Princess kaguya movie from Miyazaki and I'd like to try out the style for my next piece if it suits.

How was it making the transition from hand drawn art to computer generated? Or did you learn these skills simultaneously?
traceyelle20 karma
I think the tools you uses have nothing to do with your skills. If your know you principles you can learn to use any tool
SpoilySwiss49 karma
This is such a cool idea! First a question I've often wondered about: do you think anyone can learn to draw, or is a person born with a certain amount of talent?

Thanks spoily swiss I think anyone can learn to do anything and your only as great as you push yourself but talent is when you make what you've learned your own. If you find a skill that is worth doing it's gotta be worth doing it well. The only limit is your head

Could you draw me wearing my favorite tiara?
Question: I find drawing frustrating because I can't make what I see in my mind appear on the paper. Do you, as a professional, experience that too?

Your work is fantastic! When and how did you realize you had a talent for animation, or art in general?
traceyelle2 karma
Thank you! When I didn't know English, I used to use my art as a way to communicate things and my skills developed from there

What helped you develop such a distinctive style? Were you inspired by anything, or does it just kind of pour out of your head?
traceyelle9 karma
I like at ALOT of illustrators (loish, tuna bora, john mahoney etc) and film makers (bad lurhmann, wes anderson, etc)

Great idea! How do you get new clients? Do many animators submit ideas and the customer picks the ideas that fit best?
traceyelle20 karma
Animators in the wild usually work in groups to find food, shelter and freelance jobs , sometimes a leader will emerge in the pack and it make a studio were they work for other larger creatures called ad agencies or production studios. Remember to not give the animator to much sunlight because the outside world confuses them
traceyelle7 karma
I'm working hard on your pictures, guys-- a couple new ones coming up in the next hour. I'm having so much fun, best Saturday ever!!
fix-it-up-chappie7 karma
What specifically motivated you to become an animator in the first place?
traceyelle9 karma
English wasn't my first language and drawing helped me speak what I couldn't say I drew and I never stopped since
DapperDodger6 karma
I am terrible at drawing, what should I do to get better?
traceyelle3 karma
Draw and draw and draw some more, I made SO many bad drawings in my art career; just look at my deviantart!
The secret is practice. No amount of talent can cover for hard work.

lots of experimentation and doing bad drawings-- I started looking at what my favorite artists were doing and I mixed and matched what I liked in my own art.
