Hello, I have a bit a situation that I could really use some advice on. I live in LA with my parents and my grandma (age 85) lives close to us in an apartment for old people (non-assisted). She is suffering from short term memory loss, dementia and she is emotionally abusive towards my family. She is at risk of being evicted but I don't know the specifics as to why. My grandma lives strictly off of medicare and has zero life savings. My family wants to keep her in her current apartment for as long as possible. My dad has been researching options for her but it seems like there are only 3 options, all of which sound terrible. She could (1) go to a medicare facility and live 3 to a room, but my grandma would have a deeply degraded lifestyle having to live with other people in her space (2 move in with my family but we are worried she would try to kill herself and in the process burn our house down (3) move into an assisted living care facility but my family cant afford to pay the $3000-5000 /month price tag. My question to you is do we have any other options that would be more economical and allow her to have some decent living conditions? I don't understand medicare at all, my dad does a lot better than I do. Can you explain to me what happens to old people in the medicare system...what is the best way to navigate through it? Thank you for your help.

That sounds awful! For what it's worth, not all counselors are created equal. Just because one interaction was shitty doesn't mean all interactions will be shitty. I understand that one interaction left a bad taste in your mouth but please don't let that bias prevent you from seeking help in the future, there are plenty of good counselors out there.
