Thank you so much. That is interesting and helpful. I think you're definitely right that the former serves as the building blocks for the latter ... it always rings false to only fish for parts of the story that fit into your first idea, in my opinion.

I wish I could help with the 1986 day, but I was not born! Sad. My question is about your process of reporting/writing a story. How long do you report for before you start writing? When do you know that a story is ready to write?
