Now is constructed some hundred of milliseconds after its actually happened. Watch a docu series called the Brain by David Eagleman. One classic experiment is comparing sound vs light as a trigger to react. The reactions differ depending on processing time. Light travels faster but takes longer to process so sound actually causes a quicker reaction hence why a gun is used for races.

Now is how fast your brain processes sensory information combined with predictive models. The way I like to explain it is world sim like the matrix inside our head. It is a representation of the world spatially but also temporally

I would ask what makes you feel sad or worthless. Most of the time it's something external, something out of our control. That's an impossible battle to win. But if we focus on what you can control, how you feel and respond to things it helps give some power back. You can tell yourself you feel ok right now even if only for a moment

This might be outside of your field, but I've had this idea that the growth and development of human society closely follows patterns of cell differentiation of a human body, from stem cells to differentiated. Is there evidence of overarching patterns, or stages, in the progression of a genetic line?

As a side question, how is grad school? I've been out of school for a while and tried different things, but have this gut feeling academia would work for me. Curious of others' experiences.

Definitely add an update or, even better, a part 2 with more depth and coverage
