Respectfully, I beg to disagree. I think it was more than that. MJ sometimes came across as a very....odd person in interviews and public appearances etc.

Given that he had virtually no normal childhood (both from how he was treated by his family, and then later, when the fame monster ate him), it's not surprising to me he wouldn't know how to act 'normally' around children, and even act 'normal' in general. How would you, if you'd never seen anyone demonstrate it?

That's not to say that he was the living incarnation of pedo bear, and personally I don't think he was, but I think it's maybe how the whole fiasco started. Parents picking up on that oddness, and twisting it to their advantage. Someone like MJ would have no real way to personally counter that and I imagine it was a very odd experience.

It's possible that he was a raging pedophile, of course, and I don't discount that possibility, but my gut feeling leads me to believe he was actually just a really fucked up guy from living some kind of distorted make-believe / fantasy life as a result of being insanely famous and never experiencing what 'real life' is while growing up.
