Sorry to steal this, but my dad was a referee years ago. He was reffing a football game (St. Lawrence, I think) and called a misconduct penalty against St. Lawrence. The crowd went crazy, booing him as he picked up the ball and marched off 15 yards further down the field. As he set the ball down, the booing all of a sudden went quiet, leaving one, loud voice yelling, "Ref! You stink!!" It was the coach of the home team. Dad picked the ball up, marched another 15 yards away, set it down, and asked loudly back to the coach, "How do I smell from here?" One of his finer moments.

Fascinating. Never heard of him, but he was born a couple of years after my father, so they're the same generation. I always assumed dad made it up on the spot, but he may have stolen it from Clower. Thanks for helping me extend the family lore.

Do you use any particular newsletter grammar/spelling checker software?

Fellow early adopter here. TI gave me a TIPC with a 1200 baud modem and sent me home. I tripped over the usenet and compuserve by accident. What happened to keep you off for 6 months?!
