As a combat veteran, I imagine losing friends and colleagues in such a manner to be much worse than the loss I've experienced in firefights. To witness such a horrible death must be so depressing, demoralizing and outright terrifying. These people are saints.

You'd be surprised how far you can get by just knowing the right person.
