Tim, you are so gracious even to people that are challenging to deal with. Do you have any advice on how you manage to keep your cool with difficult people?

Thanks. I had read things that seemed to indicate this last year in some dark fuzzy corners of the web, but I had to consider that it could just be the tin foil hats gone wild. A follow up, did you hesitate before you went public with this?

The anger that new atheists experience is normal. Most of us have had it. We also experience the family disconnects and feelings of betrayal. Obviously your situation is escalated because of the real horror that is the Jeffs crazy train. But I want you to know that your life is going to be ok in the end. Understand, you only have one life. But that is kind of a relief as well. Because now you understand that you need to live the best possible life. Suicide is not an answer, it is just another form of escape and not dealing with your life. You only get one shot at this and it is exactly what you make it from here on out.
I think you could benefit from some nondenominational therapy. When I was severely depressed it saved my life. I was on anti-depressants for 2 years afterwards. Eventually, I was able to cope on my own.
Depression is when you cannot see a future. When you are in so much pain that you are numb. These things are temporary and can be fixed with the appropriate help and support. New atheists go through a lot of emotional trauma. With your situation, it is really important that you get that help.
The first thing to understand is that there is no magic bullet. We are all human and we all fail. What leads to success is the willingness to seek and accept help and understanding that the damage has been done. It will take time to fix it, but it can be fixed.
Tl;dr I am worried about you. Please get some therapy.

What were the accommodations like? Were they nice or shoddy? Did you feel the games were run well by the host country?
