There's probably a couple hundred variables that go into pricing flights. A lot of it is demand- more people want to go to Denver than to Nashville. So, Southwest, for instance, could book full flights to Denver even if it charges $550. However, if it charged $550 for every flight to Nashville, their planes probably wouldn't be as full. So, it makes a lot more sense to charge more when they can, to get the most out of every flight. Hope that helps.
