Hi, I’m actress Clare Kramer from BRING IT ON, RULES OF ATTRACTION, and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. I just starred in a film called BIG ASS SPIDER. (Can you guess what it's about? haha). Please check out the big ass trailer here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/bigassspider/ Now, Ask Me Anything!

Joss Whedon seems pretty good about re-using talent. Have you had any interesting parts to turn down?

ClareKramer173 karma

Not yet... but from your lips to Joss' ears!

DolphinNets30 karma

I look forward to you being re-used ;)

ClareKramer135 karma

Ha! Me too! And thanks for that.

Uzorglemon52 karma

Hi Clare! First of all, thank you for being one of the best Buffy villains ever, and your "cheer-tator" line in Bring It On is still one of the best parts of that movie, Courtney was one hell of a role. =0)

Do you still get recognised on a regular basis by regular people who know you primarily from your time on Buffy? And how often do you interact with people outside the industry who are "sure they know you from somewhere" but can't quite pin it down?

ClareKramer143 karma

Hey! Thanks for joining. Yes, both BTVS and Bring It On afforded me some of the most amazing dialogue! To answer your question, it's funny... I do get that "you look like someone" look a lot - and like one Reddit member already said - I'm not famous! It's true! I've just been super lucky to be part of some amazing projects... anyway - yes... people often say I look familiar and if I do get recognized from BTVS or BIO it's usually when I am in line for coffee or pumping gas and have no make-up on... go figure!

topgungoose51 karma

If you had won your last appearance on Doug Loves Movies, would the baby have made it to the next show?

That was a good run.

ClareKramer133 karma

I had so much fun doing Doug Loves Movies! I think the baby missed being on the show by 1 1/2 weeks... I'm so competitive - and so bummed because I knew the answers that last episode! Such is life.

ClareKramer133 karma

Hi guys - thank you so much for coming to my AMA! I'm so sorry if I didn't get to your question... and I hate to run! Hope you have a chance to check out Big Ass Spider... and thanks again! Talk soon!

Hi Clare, thanks so much for coming on again, loved having you on /r/buffy like a year ago.

As soon as Buffy finished in 2003, there was talk of reboots and the like. Now that Buffy & Angel are on Netflix in many countries, it's seems to have sparked a whole new generation of Watchers(hehe). And from this new influx, it seems there's been some talk in the land of Hollywood about reboots.

How would you personally feel about a reboot? I myself feel skeptical and even though there's been no new TV episodes (we still get Buffy in comic format at least) for over ten years, I still feel it's not been a long enough time. I certainly think they would have to have a full recast even if they did set it in a reasonable time-frame. And although James and David are amazingly good looking, they do now look older than than they're time on Buffy. I guess you could say I would be really scared that something I grew up with and watched live became something different. Although, Joss has never let me down before, but I still have the scared feeling when it comes to reboots.

What do you think about a reboot? Nay, yay?

ClareKramer129 karma

Hey! Thanks for having me back! I actually agree with you... I think a re imagination is inevitable - but too soon! The original cast is too old to play themselves 10 years ago, and too young really to pay themselves totally different, and a recasting of the same characters would just be strange at this point! But, it will happen, and like you said... Joss has never let you down! I've gotta personally believe when he thinks the time and format is right - he'll move on it.

xburt19 karma

Did you really delay the birth of your child to win more Leonard Maltin game?

ClareKramer121 karma

Ha! No... but this is a rumor that I'd love to perpetuate!

Aerron19 karma

Thanks for doing Glory so well. I had to stop and think for a minute, it's been a few years since I watched the series.

But once it clicked, I made the "ew" face and shivered a little.

Such a wonderful, twisted character that you really brought to life!

Thanks!

ClareKramer120 karma

Hi and thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, wonderful twisted characters are my forte! Is that a bad thing?

LoveandMovies13 karma

Clare, I saw you and Sarah Michelle Gellar at a Starbucks in Hollywood once...I almost fainted.

Can you tell us about geeknation? Is it a YouTube channel?

ClareKramer113 karma

Hi and thanks for coming over! I hope I bought you coffee? Yes, GN, my fifth child! GN is not a YouTube channel... but an independent entertainment website w/ podcast, blogs and shows. Also active on FB & Twitter... it's been a labor of love.

Cu77lefish12 karma

What was your favorite scene to shoot as Glory?

ClareKramer119 karma

I loved shooting the 100th episode. It was the pinnacle of my character and what many thought was the end of the series, so I feel it really wrapped things up nicely. Plus I loved all the stunt work!

sabanerox12 karma

Hi Clare, I loved your work as Glory in BTVS and you made Season 5 the best of the show, it was true that Glory was supposed to return in Season 7 with a major role and not just a cameo in the first episode?

ClareKramer116 karma

Hi and thanks so much! G was a once in a lifetime character! I was told little about Season 7 except there was a chance I would come back more... I of course was hoping that would be the case - but twas not to be! Hopefully Glory will eventually live on in the comics...

GraphicPup8 karma

Clare knows about the comicbooks? melts with joy

ClareKramer115 karma

Ha! I often thought maybe Glory body jumped into Giles at the end of the 100th episode... just saying! That would be great to bring into the comics! :)

HelloKidA10 karma

Favorite Buffy episode/line? (You had one of the greatest villain deaths in Buffy, by the way!)

ClareKramer161 karma

Hey! Thanks so much! Favorite Glory line? There really were so many... but I did always favor "The Slayer's a robot? Did anyone else know the Slayer was a robot?" It just cracked me up!

here_for_the_atheism9 karma

What was your most physically demanding role as an actress?

What was your job before acting?

edit: where'd the {link to picture} go?

ClareKramer125 karma

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. More demanding role - probably this little known film called Endure where I played a kidnapped lass... and was barefoot and tied to a tree in the middle of the night for most of the movie! Of course BTVS was demanding in it's own right - but not emotionally demanding - because I loved playing Glory. Thanks for asking!

kpacek3308 karma

I can't think of anything to ask, but I've never been this early to an AMA and I loved you on Buffy. So how was your day?

ClareKramer17 karma

Hi! Thanks for joining and thanks for watching the show. xoxo My day has been pretty awesome! You?

hansjens478 karma

If you could take any role in an existing movie with the rest of the original cast intact, what role would you take and why?

ClareKramer19 karma

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Interesting question - as I'm a huge Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo series fan - and an equally huge Hunger Games fan... but I think maybe I'm too old for either Katniss or Lisbeth. I don't know... I will get back to you on an age appropriate role....

hansjens476 karma

Interesting answer nonetheless!

Both of the versions of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo were great movies in somewhat different ways.

ClareKramer17 karma

Yes and I was partial to the Swedish version... You?

Greg_Ostertag8 karma

Clare, thanks for doing this!

  1. How cool was it to see yourself on TV being a super powerful god?

  2. Were you a fan of BTVS before you were offered the role, and did you keep up with the comic books and such after it went off the air?

ClareKramer112 karma

Hey! Thanks so much for stopping by! It was really awesome to play Glory - and I think today I can in a way appreciate it much more because I'm more removed from the experience. Often I see clips of myself and think... "Is that really me?!" As far as the show - I was a removed fan and had seen a few of the Faith Buffy/Angel crossover episodes - but really got to know the show after being cast. And yes.... I've kept up with the comics!

PuroMichoacan6 karma

How was working with the Buffy cast?

Did you and Sarah Michell Gellar were good friends?

Thanks for doing this AMA!

ClareKramer119 karma

Thanks for joining me! I seriously am grateful! The BTVS cast was amazing. Although I was the new kid on the block, I never felt it - everyone was very welcoming. SMG was very sweet - and I learned a ton from her, as BTVS was basically my first job. I call several of the cast members my close friends to this day.

GraphicPup6 karma

Alright, let's settle this. Who's hotter Nicolas Brendan or James Marsters?

ClareKramer121 karma

Oh come on! How can you pick! NB is the lover boy from next door and JM is the forbidden fruit! Am I right? Both are equally delicious! And on a personal level, two of my favorite people. I love them both!

dukesinatra5 karma

I have never seen Buffy and I don't know your character.

Tell us about life outside of TV / Film.

Are you a family girl? Do you work elsewhere? What hobbies do you have?

ClareKramer117 karma

In a nutshell, I'm a tv & film fanatic, love to do the Times crossword, have 4 kids (the youngest is 3 weeks, the oldest 5) who loves coffee and yoga! I grew up w a scientist Dad in a small Ohio town, went to NYU where I graduated in 3 years w/ my BFA, and now live in sunny CA! Oh, and it's against my religion to wear socks; I own a tremendous amount of flip flops.

Greg_Ostertag5 karma

You wouldn't like Ohio right now. The hi temperature here today was 2 degrees.

ClareKramer15 karma

That's what I hear! I don't miss that part of Ohio!

chrisco835 karma

What have you been doing in your down time?

ClareKramer121 karma

Having babies. :)

ScoobyGangRelic5 karma

Did you know you were a God when you got the role of Glory?

ClareKramer115 karma

Hi! Actually, no I did not! I didn't find out Glory was a God, in fact, until I read that page in the episode it was revealed! I lamented for a while that I wish I would have known sooner - but in retrospect I'm glad I didn't.

ClareKramer117 karma

Hi! Oh boy, I first thought I would make my living as a ballet dancer... but somewhere along the line of applying to colleges, I veered off to acting. My parents were always very supportive, and perhaps it was with slight nudging from my Dad that I ended up with my BFA in theater. I love the arts, and with acting I feel there is the ability to touch people's lives and create new insights. I guess that's the short answer. Come over for a glass of wine and I'll give you the long one!

parkerb913 karma

Hi Clare I love GeekNation, when is take 5 coming back?

ClareKramer15 karma

Hi! Thanks for loving GN! Take 5 will be back in new form now that I've had the latest little dude Sky. Look for new episodes in March!

BesiegedPotato3 karma

Hey Clara, Thanks for doing this AMA. I am a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and your season was particularly good.

Besides Big Ass Spider; do you have any film projects in the works? Where can we see you next?

ClareKramer14 karma

Definitely check out Big Ass Spider! Also I have The Lost Tree coming out this year... and my show and podcast on GN.

BesiegedPotato3 karma

I'm having a hard time finding information about GN. Could you post a link so I could check out your show and podcast?

ClareKramer14 karma

I don't think I can post a link... but go to GeekNation dot com and check it all out! Also GN is on FB and Twitter...

yuneek3 karma

Hi Clare! Thanks for doing this AMA! What was it like to work with Greg Grunberg on Big Ass Spider? Is he funny in real life?

ClareKramer14 karma

Hi! Thank you guys for having me! Filming BAS was so fun - we just had the best time ever! Greg and Lombardo and even Ray Wise were absolutely hilarious to work with! Honestly, it's the most fun I'd had on a project in a long time. Have you seen the movie? I think the fact that we all had so much fun is apparent in the final product.

zombiedestroyer3 karma

what is your opinion about twilight?

ClareKramer114 karma

Honestly, I don't really have one...

JustTheMann3 karma

whats your favorite pizza topping?

ClareKramer119 karma

Toughest questions yet! Hmmmm... I know it sounds totally bizarre, but pineapple and jalapenos... try it. It does not disappoint!

sugar_h00ker3 karma

How physically demanding was it getting ready for the movie Bring It On? (Love that movie by the way. My friends and I attempted the moves IN theater)

ClareKramer110 karma

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Actually, for BIO we went to a month long training camp... and were pretty strictly prepped for the filming. It was 6+ hours a day of learning the cheers, etc., plus working out after at the gym... it was crazy pressure but crazy fun too! Definitely one of my favorite projects to date to work on.

Hannahforsyth3 karma

Who was the nicest person on set? And do you still speak to everyone now?

ClareKramer19 karma

Nicest person on set? Hmmmm.... everyone was super nice. Hard to pick! I do speak to many of the cast but I couldn't say everyone. I'm probably closest to Julie and Charisma and Eliza, and talk often to Amber, Tom, Emma... so many great people involved with the show.

samdr3 karma

What's the craziest role you've ever been offered?

ClareKramer16 karma

Easy - Glory! But fortunately I didn't realize how crazy she was at the time!

ghostlyhamburger3 karma

What was the most surprising thing about being a part of BtVS?

ClareKramer14 karma

Definitely the most surprising thing was the longevity the show has had. Like I said earlier... being cast as Glory was like winning the lottery!

greedygraveler3 karma

Would you date any of your movie love interests in real life?

ClareKramer17 karma

Well, I am in a relationship long-term... but assuming this is hypothetical... sure! Why not?

dukesinatra2 karma

Where in Ohio are you from? I spent most of my adult life in Circleville, Hocking County and eventually the east side of Cleveland

ClareKramer18 karma

I'm actually from Delaware, Ohio - north of Columbus off 23.

tapomirbowles2 karma

Never really was a fan of Buffy... but a huge fan of Firefly and Serenty, and I feel I should get into more Whedon projects... everybody tells me it should be Buffy.. but I always so it as a kinda stupid kids show... Can you sell it to me, as maybe juxtaposed to firefly, and maybe what episode I should start with to get the best idea of what it is? :D

ClareKramer113 karma

Wow - toughie! As far as an episode to win you over... watch Hush. I'm not in it, so it's not self-promotion... just an amazing episode. You obviously get more from the episode if you know the characters, but I think it's still very powerful if you don't. If you like what you see... check more out! As far as the show... Buffy was a groundbreaking female TV character... and the vampires were used as metaphors for teenage problems... I would be curious to your thoughts after you caught a few episodes!

FrenchMuffinsOui2 karma

Hi Clare! Nice to see you back. What other doors did your role on Buffy open for you, and what is in store for the future? Also, congratulations on your newborn! :)

ClareKramer15 karma

Hi! As I said, thanks for having me back... and thanks for the congratulations. Sky is amazing! Really, BTVS open ALL doors for me. It was like winning the lottery. Amazing role, show, director, creator and my first job in television. The longevity of the character has been unlike anything I've ever been a part of, and I'm so very grateful!

Hi Claire! I met you at Comic-Con this year. You were so nice! My questions are, what do you have planned for the future and what do you think of all those mindless "Bring It On" sequels?

ClareKramer13 karma

Hi! Was it SDCC? Hope you had a fun time there! The future... well 7 days into 2014 and I am wondering what I DO have planned! I'd love to tackle a meaty role this year... so stay tuned. Some years I'm in the mood for comedy, some years drama... 2014 feels very dramatic to me! And as far as the BIO sequels... what a bummer, huh?!

tlyon21 karma

If you were trapped in a bubble what type and color would it be? 1.balloon 2.bubble gum bubble 3.plastic bubble or 4.soap bubble

I am of course keeping busy w/ my podcast & GN, and I have another movie The Lost Tree coming out later this year... and I guess we'll see what 2014 brings! Definitely in the mood for a meaty role this year... so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

papadoc56562 karma

Saw the trailer for The Lost Tree looked great. Hopefully a sequel to BAS maybe Damn More Big Ass Spiders! Thanks for being connected to fans!!
